Pay dates that land on a weekend or a Federal Reserve bank holiday are paid on the preceding business day. The Federal Reserve stays open on the Friday before a Saturday holiday (for example Jul 3, 2026), so those pay dates are not moved. Wages count toward the quarter and year they are paid in.

IRS deposit due: weekly, bi-weekly and semi-monthly pay use the semiweekly schedule (paid Wed–Fri, due the following Wednesday; paid Sat–Tue, due the following Friday; always at least 3 business days after the period closes). Monthly pay uses the monthly schedule (the 15th of the following month). Business days skip weekends, federal holidays as the government observes them, and DC Emancipation Day (Apr 16). Your schedule comes from your lookback period, not from how often you pay (Pub. 15, section 11), so confirm it with your payroll system.

Federal observed dates (OPM, 5 U.S.C. 6103): a Saturday holiday is observed the Friday before, a Sunday holiday the Monday after. The Federal Reserve does not observe a Saturday holiday on Friday, so banks are open on the days marked.

Deposit dates are the easy part.

Drop the register for any of these pay dates and get an error sweep before the deposit goes out — overtime paid without the premium, FICA at the wrong rate, negative net, duplicate payments, gross-to-net that does not reconcile. Runs in your browser; the file never leaves it.
